Why Support the Motown Museum?
The Motown Sound is in our DNA. We remember growing up listening to Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson. “What’s Going On?” was just part of our daily vocabulary after hearing Marvin Gaye played over and over again. Diana Ross defined style and the Temptations had all the moves. Back in the day, Motown was the epicenter of creativity, and Motown Records remains an iconic symbol of Detroit and American music.
When you contribute to the Motown Museum, you become part of a rich musical and cultural legacy. Options for support include Membership, Annual Fund, Planned Giving, Artifacts and other gifts-in-kind.
Donors to the Annual Fund enhance and build on the quality and breadth of Museum offerings through tax-deductible contributions that are immediately put to good use.
Your gift to the Annual Fund helps preserve the legacy of Motown Records, through which we educate and motivate generations of individuals via exhibits and programs that promote the values of vision, creativity and entrepreneurship. More than 60,000 guests visit our museum each year, including close to 10,000 students!
A gift of $25, $50, $100, $500 or more is an investment in the preservation, display and expansion of our professionally curated collection of Motown Records’ history and artifacts.
Our Monthly Gift Club (MGC) subscribers provide dependable support for the Motown Museum with a regularly scheduled gift throughout the year. This is a convenient and affordable way to make your support go further. Since monthly donations help us to reduce costs, we have more financial support for education programs and artifact curation.
Becoming a MGC member is easy, convenient and flexible.
Each month your contribution of $10 or more is transferred from your credit card to the Motown Museum. No checks or stamps required! You can increase, decrease or suspend your gift amount at any time. For the price of a pizza, your generosity makes a difference!
When you become a member of Motown Museum, you enjoy free admission for 12 months, while helping us deliver quality exhibits that serve a steady flow of music lovers and history buffs.
Because museum admission covers only a fraction of our operating costs, our family of members hold the key to the professional preservation and presentation of artifacts, and ensuring a comfortable and safe visitor experience. In addition, you’ll be invited to some members-only programs, receive a discount at the museum store, and get advance notice of concerts and events.
Our tours, provided by local performing arts students, are fun and memorable. Why not share the love and give someone special a gift they won’t forget? A Motown Museum membership makes an excellent birthday, mother’s/father’s day or holiday gift with benefits that last all year long.

How great would you feel, providing a Motown Museum experience for 100 middle school teens? Imagine being one of those students– learning about the history of the Motown Sound, and the iconic record label created by a young songwriter who followed his dreams, turning Studio A into the one of the largest and most successful record companies of all time!
Every teen and adult who takes our tour learns valuable lessons about entrepreneurship, creativity, history and culture. Host a Fundraiser
Our guests are passionate about their museum experience, and can’t wait to tell all their friends about it. We love it when we see your reviews posted on Facebook, Yelp and Trip Advisor! Another way to spread the word is by hosting a Motown fundraiser. It’s a great way to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, or to host a Motown themed dinner or cocktail hour, with a donation to the Motown Museum as a ticket to entry. The Motown Museum offers several planned giving opportunities, all of which can be tailored to meet your specific financial and estate-planning needs.
By remembering the Museum in your will, establishing a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust, or making the Museum a beneficiary of your 401K, IRA, or Life Insurance policy, you may create a lifetime stream of income for you and/or a member of your family, as well as enjoy a significant charitable income tax or estate tax deduction. Donation of Artifacts
Motown Museum welcomes the donation of artifacts that might be used in current or future exhibits. Motown Museum seeks materials that will help share the tremendous legacy of Motown Records and we welcome the opportunity to speak with you about any artifacts you may wish to donate. The Museum does not purchase items and cannot give appraisals or estimate the value of memorabilia.
Any questions related to tax deductions associated with donations should be discussed with your accountant or tax consultant. If you have items that you wish to donate or loan to the Museum, please feel free to send an email to the Curatorial Department with a detailed list and written description of the items. Photos are welcome and helpful.
