There’s no better way to kick off the summer Motown-style than spending the day celebrating the Museum and its founder, Esther Gordy-Edwards!
Founder’s Day, our annual community celebration, will be held Sunday, May 21st from 12-5 p.m. with plenty of music and performances from our Hitsville NEXT artists and others. Plus, we will have games and activities for all ages, a variety of food trucks, and additional surprises announced throughout the day!
This year we have some very special moments planned and will be using the entire Motown Museum campus to create some amazing memories.
Discounted tours of Hitsville U.S.A. will be available throughout the day on a first-come, first-served basis, giving guests a chance to learn the history and see the original artifacts from Motown’s prime eras.
Our gift shop will be open inside the Museum as well as an expanded retail experience inside our newly opened Hitsville NEXT building. You’ll be able to get all your collectibles and one-of-a-kind items while experiencing the future of Motown inside our glass atrium.
Parents will be able to sign up their rising stars for our Lyric Project program and Spark and Ignite Summer Camps, and everyone can learn more about the Motown MIC Spoken Word program and Amplify: The Sound of Detroit Singing Competition.
Guests can also sign up for our Museum Membership program which comes with perks like free admission into the Museum, opportunities to win free tickets to concerts, and first access to all things Motown Museum.
And because it’s Motown, it’s always showtime. Catch our previous Motown MIC winners, Lyric Project alumni, and Amplify contestants as they take over the stage. We’ll also have a DJ on-site to curate a family-oriented day of soul. Plus, we have a surprise performance in the works that’ll be sure to leave the crowd spinning.
