On March 27th, the incomparable Martha Reeves was honored with the 2,776th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Recording. Joining her on this induction was the founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy Jr. and Motown Records A&R, William “Mickey” Stevenson.
The Motown Museum congratulates Ms. Martha Reeves on this tremendous milestone and thank her for her contribution to legacy of Motown.
“I’m going along on this ride on cloud nine,” Reeves tells the Free Press. “My wildest dreams are coming true.”
After being invited by Mickey Stevenson to audition at Hitsville U.S.A., Martha Reeves showed up first thing in the morning to schedule her audition, while self-appointing herself as Mickey’s secretary. Her tenacity led to singing assignments for her with fellow singers Rosalind Ashford and Annette Beard who would sign to the label as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas in 1962.
