Katherine Russell, a dedicated volunteer with more than 11 years of service at the Motown Museum, was pleasantly surprised as she received the prestigious Spirit of Motown award live from the Detroit Riverfront on Good Morning America. This recognition was a tribute to her unwavering commitment to both education and the preservation of the Museum’s legacy. Miss Katherine’s passion for keeping the spirit of Motown music alive spans several decades, initially manifesting during her time as a teacher in Detroit and now flourishing through her role as a volunteer at the Museum. The acknowledgment was so significant that even Smokey Robinson himself sent an exceptionally heartfelt message to express his support!
In addition, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the talented performers from Hitsville NEXT: SAGE, Tavion Knight, Imani Bloom, Dion Jackson Jr., and King Bethel. Their rendition of “I Second That Emotion” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles was truly remarkable! Witnessing these artists, who originally started as participants in the summer camp, take center stage as ambassadors for Hitsville NEXT, the Motown Museum, and the city of Detroit, was a genuine honor.
