Joining Motown in 1968, Rare Earth was the company’s most successful “blue-eyed soul” band. A cover of the Temptations’ hit, “Get Ready,” brought record sales of one million to the group and the company’s new Rare Earth label in 1969. Two Top 10 sellers followed under the direction of Motown producer Norman Whitfield, “(I Know) I’m Losing You” in 1970 and “I Just Want to Celebrate” in 1971. While at Motown, the band’s members consisted of Gil Bridges (saxophone), Rod Richards (guitar), Pete Rivera (drums), John Parrish (bass), and Kenny James (keyboards).
